Blending heritage and modernity in De Beauvoir

This week we are sharing some behind the scene details of the interiors.

The storm in Ireland this week has had us cut off from the world, which was setting the winter mood excellently but, sadly we couldn't send this diary on our usual Sunday morning due to the lack of internet access, but now, back in London we're ready for the next chapter. This week, we’re excited to share how the project balances its rich historical roots with bold, imaginative interior design.

Restoring the past
The house, a Grade II-listed Neo Jacobean treasure, has undergone meticulous restoration to honor its heritage. From the intricate cornicing to the detailed architraves, each element has been thoughtfully preserved and enhanced to retain its historical charm.

But On the Square isn’t just about preservation—it’s about daring to imagine how a breath of modernity would live in coexistence. By introducing unexpected colors, patterns, and materials, we’re creating a space that surprises and inspires at every turn.

Harmonizing: Where history meets bold.

Wait to be floored.
Our floors and thresholds feature exquisite tiles by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby from Mutina , sourced through our partners DOMUS. These tiles are not just functional; they tell a story. The patterns and textures weave a narrative across spaces, playing with scale and illusion while honouring the home’s architectural symmetry.

Revealing companionship
The meeting of traditional cornicing and modern Stilling rails powder coated in considerate pops of colour showcases the dialogue between past and present. This seamless integration creates an interplay, adding depth to the space while bridging classic and contemporary design.

A fresh face
To complement the home’s restoration, we’ve partnered with the independent family-run: Fenwick and Tilbrook to live on the wall on the walls but also had the incredible opportunity to develop bespoke paint colors rooted in OntheSq’s history (more on this later). These shades enhance the natural light and architectural features, creating a cohesive palette that’s as timeless as it is unique.

As we approach the March 2025 opening, we look forward to unveiling and giving behind the scenes from these extraordinary collaborations. Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes glimpses and invitations to witness OntheSq’s transformation firsthand.
