OntheSq reveals plans for London’s first residential design house, a four storey wonderland of reveals and design surprises in De Beauvoir Town. Restored and brought to life by Irenie Studio in partnership with a host of design brands and through co-creation with designers, artists and contemporary craft makers, OntheSq marks the first time a collaboration of this scale has taken place in a residential property.

Ahead of Irenie Studio’s transformation of the Space OntheSq showcased the work of Rio Kobayashi during Frieze 2023 and beyond which saw the designer work alongside Flavia Brandle, PPCDV (Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos), Martino Gamper, Bethan Laura Wood, Jochen Holz and Shirobey Kobayashi (Rio’s father). This was followed by a public designer Christmas market where The Tweed Project, Makio McDonald and Angus Mill joined the designers selling unique design objects over the weekend. In April 2024, curator Dee Morgan hosted a private event, Preserved in - A visual language that might have disappeared featuring Irish artist Rachel Quinn and handcrafted glassmaker J Hill’s Standard which included works from Martino Gamper, Aldo Bakker and Nigel Peake.

OntheSq is set to open April 2025. The project is a restoration of a 1840s Grade II listed detached Neo Jacobean house in De Beauvoir Square. Irenie has both responded to the building and opened the doors for designers and design brands to make their mark in the space. The result will be a visual feast revealing surprises around every corner, delights beyond each keyhole and a playful reimagining of what a period home could be. The project is designed by Irenie Studio with Studio Dera acting as Executive Architects.
